RE: Equiso alternatives
My Hossen just arrived.

$116 CAD, free shipping, no sales tax, no duty.

My Antutu score is 18,222.

The included IR remote kinda sucks, but the Equiso air mouse/dongle works fine

You CAN do something about it! Get a better Android media player, from a company with real customer support, maybe even for a similar price!

After reading so many posts here with titles like "Disappointed in performance" and "Doesn't work", I thought it would be useful to expose the Equiso for what it is - a half-baked attempt to cash in on the flourishing market for inexpensive media players based mostly on the Android operating system.

And there are so many alternatives, mostly flowing from the creative developers in Southern China (Shenzhen). That is where my Equiso alternative comes from - it's the Diamond Multimedia AMP1000. It's a set-top box, not a stick, so it doesn't get hot. It has an actual WiFi antenna, so reception is good. It is a single-core Amlogic 8726 M3 running at 800MHz, so it's not blazing fast. I got it on Amazon in August for $120, although it is actually a re-branded Geniatech ATV1000 from last year. It has an SDHC card slot and two USB ports, so lots of room for expansion. Diamond has a customer support hotline and a ticket tracking database for their products, and I got knowledgeable help when I needed it. Oh, and it is ROOTED!

I am looking forward to my Equiso Pro, but not with great enthusiasm.

I hope in this thread we can share ideas and experiences about better products and better companies that can make our dumb TVs smart!

You're a tough one -- here's the situation: We launched as a Kickstarter project - from there we were able to build a Beta Standard Model. Of course it was going to be buggy - we said that from the get go. The Beta model was not going to be a true to life version --- it was our 1st product and a way to gauge what need improvement etc. Since then we have pushed a beta firmware update that has resolved several issues.

We are working hard on the Pro model and truly believe that you (even though you are a tough customer) will be happy with the product. If not I am sure we will hear from you right away -- Our focus is on building the best product on the market and nailing the hardware from the start -- software is much more simple as we are able to push frequent updates.

Don't worry Jay -- we are building the Pro with you in mind.

I am very disappointed in this over priced product that worked for 2 hours and I have not been able to get it to work since. If I would have known that there is absolutely no customer service I would have gone with a different product and company all together. HAPPY HOLIDAYS YOUR GIFT DOESN'T WORK!! What a bunch of assholes.

@kiera doyle:
Not that I want to defend Equiso, but they do have a functioning support operation in Irvine, CA.

When my Kickstarter Equiso Pro died, they had me send it back, and they replaced it with a retail version.

Maybe you could describe your symptoms in more detail - which version, how is it powered, what is plugged into the USB port, and so on.
