Need some help here
I have a win7 with a 500 gb 5400 rpm hdd. Now, I need a solution that makes
sure I can conveniently get back data no matter what. Incase virus /
malware infects me external hdds are out. With antiviruses, there is
no assurance. Data lost is lost. Plus it slows down the pc. My data
is also precious to me. I was thinking the answer is a recovery
solution. I think Rollback Rx is a good recovery tool. I think its
convenient to use. What do you say? Do you have suggestions other
than it? I was given the name by a friend whose opinions i respect in
such matters

You're not going to avoid risks with the external disks- if external disks are a foregone conclusion, your data's pretty much toast and unreliable because of the very reasons that you can't use external media. Forensically speaking, if you can't trust using an external backup system because of system trust issues (which you stated) you're not going to be able to get anything OUT of the system safely without risk of contamination- period. Just simply getting it back on the still possibly contaminated system is just looking for disaster to happen.

My suggestion is to side-step the problem as best as you can with a PE disk on an ISO (so it can't be contaminated), doing a virus/malware sweep as best as you can so that you CAN trust the use of external media to back data up to...OR learn Linux enough to do the same thing with a LiveCD.

Next time, use an external store to do regular backups so you don't largely have to worry with this. Seriously.
